How sweet it is

I ate a nectarine over the sink tonight. I had no choice. It was so juicy, it just ran down my chin and hands. Sticky sweetness. Pulpy goodness.

You only get that taste in season.

Once upon a time, you only got fruits and vegetables when they were in season locally. Then later, it was possible to ship them from afar, so you had a bigger selection and a longer time to enjoy them.

With today’s shipping capabilities and  hothouse technologies to grow produce, we can find most any fruit or vegetable most any time of the year, even at our small-town grocery stores.

But they don’t taste as good as fresh fruit and vegetables in season. Even if you eat them over the sink.
